What is omnichannel communication?
Omnichannel communication is an approach in which a customer's contacts by phone, email, WhatsApp, social media, and web chat collect in the same customer history. Whoever replies sees the earlier conversation, whatever the channel. What sets it apart from multichannel is the memory the channels share.

What does omnichannel communication change?
A customer messages on WhatsApp in the morning, calls in the afternoon, and emails in the evening. If each channel lives with a different person or in a different app, by the third contact the customer is explaining everything again. With an omnichannel approach, those contacts collect in the same customer history, and whoever replies sees the earlier conversation.
Being reachable on many channels is not enough on its own. Most companies already are; what is missing is channels that know about each other. The defining feature of omnichannel communication is the shared memory across channels.
How is omnichannel communication set up?
Omnichannel communication is set up by linking the channels a business uses, such as WhatsApp, email, phone, social media and the site form, to one shared customer record. An incoming message is matched to an existing person by number or email address, and every conversation has an owner. Before replying, the agent sees the same person's history across all channels on one timeline.
- Channels are connected
Every channel the business uses, such as WhatsApp, email, phone, social media, and the site form, is connected to a shared customer record.
- The person is recognised
In most systems, an incoming message is matched to an existing contact by phone number or email address. If there is no match, a new record opens and can be merged later.
- The conversation is assigned
Each conversation has an owner. The owner stays the same when the customer switches channel.
- History reads as one timeline
Before replying, the agent sees the person's history across all channels on one timeline.
An example
A customer asks a pool equipment seller for a pump price on Instagram. The next day the same person calls about stock; whoever answers sees the Instagram chat on the card and gives the stock details without asking about the price again. In the evening an email arrives asking for the invoice in the company's name. It lands on the same card and the sales rep updates the quote.

How it looks in Corex360
In Corex360, WhatsApp, Instagram, and web chat come together in one inbox in the Messaging window. Messages, calls, and email link to the same person, so the date of the last contact is clear. Each conversation is assigned an owner and can be turned into an opportunity. How the same person is recognised across channels is shown in the demo.

Terms often confused with it
| Multichannel communication | Multichannel means offering customers several channels, which may work without knowing about each other. Omnichannel means those channels share one customer history. |
|---|---|
| Shared inbox | A shared inbox is the screen where the team sees messages together, and it is one of the tools of an omnichannel approach. Joining channels up properly also needs matching to a person and a common customer record. |

FAQ
Do you need every channel for omnichannel communication?
No. Starting with the channels your customers actually use is enough. The real work is making sure every channel you add is tied to the same customer record.
In omnichannel communication, what if the same person writes from another number?
Most systems recognise a person by phone number or email address. A new number first shows up as a separate record; once someone notices that the two records are the same person, they are merged by hand and the history comes together on one card.
What does omnichannel communication require under data protection law?
Because personal data from every channel collects in one record, access should be granted by role and the privacy notice should cover every channel in use. A retention period should also be set for each channel's data.
